1. Cut at the first five-leaflet leaf on the cane.
  2. Cut at an angle similar to the angle of the leaf
  3. Cut at a point where the cane is strong enough to hold new growth.
  4. If you have to cut so low as to cut off too many leaves or too much cane, only cut to the lowest three- leaflet leaf on the cane.
